Learning made available at a distance, adopting the traditional expression of distance learning into new technological situations.

Any learning activities within formal, informal, and non-formal domains that are facilitated by information and communication technologies to lessen distance, both physically and psychologically, and to increase interactivity and communication among learners, learning sources and facilitators.

By joining the Lincoln ODL program you will be enjoying the following benefits that is quite difficult to get somewhere else –
  • Choice: ODL provides the opportunity to study more subjects
  • and reach out to programs that are not available in the local area.
  • Flexibility: Distance learning is much more flexible than traditional styles of classroom education.
  • Pace: ODL enables learners to work at their own pace in many circumstances.
  • Scheduling: The schedules for distance learning are more open
  • and allow for learners to take the classes whenever it fits into their schedule.
  • Money: In implementing the blended mode of learning, it would cost less when there is no face-to-face interaction, i.e. when the courses are offered in a fully online mode.
  • Travelling: There is no need to travel to and from class every day.
Time management and planning is a major issue for ODL learners. At the same time, you need to build a network with your fellow learners. By following the tips below, it is anticipated that you would be able to have an enjoyable and fruitful learning journey in LUC -
  • Plan – You should attend the Tutorial sessions that are scheduled 5 (five) times in a semester. Set specific days and times each week for study and keep them free of other activities. Make a note of the dates that your assignments are due and plan for extra study time around those dates.
  • Manage your time – Set aside a reasonable amount of time each week for your study – but don’t be too ambitious or you won’t be able to keep up the pace. Work in productive blocks of time and include regular rests.
  • Be organized – Have your study materials organized in one place and keep your notes clearly labeled and sorted. Work through the topics in your module systematically and seek help for difficulties straight away. Never leave problems until later.
  • Find a good place to study – Most people need order and quiet to study effectively, so try to find a suitable place to do your work – preferably somewhere where you can leave your study materials set out ready until the next time.
  • Ask for help if you need – This is the most vital part of studying at a distance. No matter what the difficulty is, seek help from your facilitator or fellow students right away.
  • Don’t give up – If you miss deadlines for assignments, speak to your facilitator – together you can work out what to do.
As a learner we expect you to
  • Attend face-to-face tutorials, every fortnightly
  • Actively participate in the Online Forum Discussion
  • Complete assignments and submit them on time
  • Study and prepare for examinations
  • Attend and participate in tutorials and study group discussions
  • Create time and space for individual study
